How To Play

New to racquetball?

To play a game of racquetball you only need a few things to get started. Most racquetball equipment and accessories can be purchased seperately or starter kits can be purchased for about $30 from a club proshop or sporting goods retail store.
Racquet (Cost anywhere from $20-$200, depends on budget, and willingness to pay for feel and technology.)
Eyewear (Recommended and important, helps reduce the risk of injury if you are hit in the eye.)
Ball (Balls come in different colors such as blue, green, lavender and black. Any color will do.)
Glove. (Optional, this will help you keep a firm grip on the racquet during those fast rallies.)
Shoes (Any type of indoor court or tennis shoe, there are shoes designed specifically for racquetball.)

For more information on how to play, tips from the pro's, video instruction and more visit Racquetball University online.

Member Spotlight-Nidia Funes

Nidia FunesNidia Funes has been enjoying racquetball for over 30 years. She plays three to four times per week at the Petaluma Valley Athletic Club in Petaluma, CA and also at the Marin YMCA in San Rafael, CA.
Besides racquetball Nidia also enjoys walking to help raise money and awareness for breast cancer. "I walk an average of 25-20 miles per week," said Nidia. "This year I will participate in two walks. The Avon Walk in San Francisco is 39 1/2 miles in 2 days and the Komen Walk for 60 miles in 3 days in San Diego. I will be raising over $4000 which is required as pledges to participate."

Nidia also enjoys volunteering at National events and most recently the USA Racquetball National Doubles and Singles. "It is my way of giving back to a sport that I love so much," said Nidia. "I have met so many wonderful people and I try to encourage other local players and women to keep playing and participating in tournaments and leagues."

The USA Racquetball Grand Gala Hall of Fame 35th Anniversary Celebration Banquet and Awards Ceremony was a night to remember for all in attendance. The sport's living legends also spoke briefly about their love for racquetball, including Hall of Fame member Dr. Bud Muehleisen who is called the most influential man in racquetball. "All these people being recognized tonight are all good competitors, but the real reason they are in the Hall of Fame is because they gave back to the sport," said Muehleisen. After numerous standing ovations throughout the evening, the ceremony ended with a barrage of flash bulbs capturing the special moment on the sport's grandest and oldest stage.
